Acoustic-Electric 5 & 6 String Cellos Vector Instruments now offers 5 and 6 string Acoustic-Electric Cellos to those players who require both capabilities. This is a finely finished European instrument that has been upgraded in our shop to a 5 or 6 string neck and the Barbera Multi-Transducer Bridge. It comes complete with an L.R. An important concept to note with these instruments is the quality of the body. If you want a 5/6 string cello that will be mostly played amplified, then it is best to use an inexpensive plywood body as there is less chance of feedback and unwanted resonances. These models start at $1.995 US ($2,895 Can).
If however your priority is an acoustic 5/6 string then the quality of body becomes very important. I use a handmade, solid wood body that is re-graduated to enhance the lower frequencies. The bass bar and soundpost are also modified. These models start at $5,000 US ($6,750 Can).

Here's a recent 6-string commission. My client wished to tune it b-e-a-d-g-c and have boxwood inlays to simulate frets. I custom made the bridge and pickup system and did some inlays on the end of the fingerboard and tailpiece.
